Assessment studies of the hake (Merluccius hubbsi), the most important fisheries resource in Argentinian waters, must take into account the considerable variability in the fishing power of the vessels composing the Argentinian offshore fleet. Standardization of effort is required before fishery statistics can be used for stock assessment. This paper discusses the application of a linear two-factor analysis of variance to data for 1978 and 1979 in order to determine relative fishing power.
